Policy & Procedure Overview
Administration of Medication: Happy Days Nursery agrees to administer medication as part of maintaining children’s health and well-being or when they are recovering from an illness. It must be prescribed by the child’s GP and be in the original container. A Medication form must be completed when dropping off your child at Nursery.
Admissions: Happy Days Nursery will be as accessible to all children and their families within the local community, as is reasonably practicable.
Behaviour Management: Happy Days Nursery aims to provide a happy, caring and safe environment within which all children can learn and develop as they play. We will ensure that any discipline used will be appropriate and not physical. We recognise that staff giving comfort by holding a child when they are distressed or upset does not constitute physical restraint. Within the environment:
- Children will be encouraged to respect staff and each other,
- Children will be encouraged to value the resources, toys with which they work,
- Each individual child is expected to behave in a manner which allows all children to feel valued and secure.
Biting: Happy Days Nursery is very aware that biting can be fairly common among children and this is a concern for staff. We have strategies in place to help to target this.
Late or Non-Collection: Happy Days Nursery will ensure that in the event of a child not being collected from Nursery, all reasonable steps will be taken to locate an appropriate person to take the child and that whilst a suitable person is being located, the child will be cared for by two members of staff. In the event of no one can be contacted the Nursery will contact the relevant Safeguarding Team. If you arrive late to collect your child after their session has ended you will be asked to pay a late fee of £5.00 for every 5 minutes you are late.
Arrivals and Departure: Upon registration, you will authorise members of your family and/or friends to collect your child from Nursery. They will be allocated a password. No-one will be allowed to collect your child from Nursery without prior permission from you.
Complaints: Happy Days Nursery aims to provide the highest quality education and care for our children. We aim to offer a welcome to each individual child and family and to provide a warm and caring environment within which all children can learn and develop as they play. We believe children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt careful attention to their needs and wishes. Our intention is to work in partnership with parents and the community generally and to welcome suggestions on how to improve our group at any time.
Confidentiality: The confidentiality of both staff and children’s personal records will be maintained at all times.
Emergency Closure: In the event of unforeseen circumstances, it may be necessary to close the Nursery without prior notice.
Equality of Opportunity: The nursery recognises and welcomes all children and their families regardless of their gender, sexuality, class, family status, means, disability, ethnic origin, culture, religion or belief. We believe that no child, individual or family should be excluded from the group’s activities.
Fees: All Nursery fees must be paid for in advance of care.
Accident, Injury and Existing Injury: If your child has an accident while in the care of the Nursery you will be informed through the use of an accident/Incident form. This form will require a signature upon collection. If your child receives a bump to the head during their time with us you will receive a courtesy phone call explaining the situation. If your child arrives at nursery with an existing injury from home a member of staff will fill in an Existing injury form with you at the beginning of the session.
Sickness and Illness: Happy Days Nursery promotes the good health of the children in the setting, taking the necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection and taking the appropriate action when children are ill. It should also be noted that as part of this policy Happy Days Nursery specifically requires parents to keep children who have been vomiting or had diarrhoea at home for at least 48hours since the last attack. Please refer to our exclusions list within this pack.
Outings: Happy Days Nursery ensures that all walks and outings are conducted with the highest regard to safety. We understand the importance these and other suitable activities which benefit the children and enhance their learning.
Safeguarding and Child Protection: We ask that all parents/carers do not use any mobile phone or camera device within the playroom. Our full policy is displayed within the reception area.
Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers: We recognise parents as the first and most important educators of their young children. Our nursery aims to support parents. Children benefit most where there is a trusting and mutually supportive partnership. The Supervisor and staff encourage parents into the nursery and there is a two-way flow of information, knowledge and expertise.
